Welcome to hy.am studios!
We are very excited to welcome you, now the real fun can begin! Yay :)
First days can sometimes be quite overwhelming, but please don’t worry! This guide will give you an insight into what you can expect.
Your first day
It is highly likely you will be joining us on a Monday and if this is the case, you will be lucky enough to take part in your first “Weekly”.
Please come in around 8.45 am, so you have enough time to settle in and make yourself a coffee before we kick off at 9 am. If you aren’t starting on a Monday, we will still organise a welcome introduction at 9 am for you!
Your new spot
We will have prepared your desk and basic setup for you ahead of your arrival. You will most likely be sat with team mates who will be working on the same projects as you or who you are in a similar role with.
Team intro
First things first, you will have your first meeting and meet the entire team - learning their names, what their roles are and maybe some additional random facts. Plus, we will also get to officially meet you!
Studio tour
You will have the official studio tour, you will learn where all the important things are, such as how to make a coffee, where the teas are, what’s available for snacks and lunch, etc.
Food and Drinks
Water - we have a Brita Yource machine on our kitchen worktop, help yourself to still or sparkling water.
Coffee - We have a fairly simple coffee machine to ensure a reliable supply! I will guide you through making your first cup.
Tea - we have lots of teas, they are in the green box on the shelving unit opposite of Mario.
The cupboard above the coffee machine - this cupboard contains an array of snacks and breakfast cereals for every preference ranging from healthy to extremely unhealthy! Please help yourself!
The fridge under the coffee machine - this fridge contains milk for your coffee and cereal, plus the secret supply of chocolate and maybe even some ice creams.
The big fridge - here you will find Club Mate, Cola, Gösser and Budweiser, again please help yourself! Other than the extra drinks, you will also find soups for lunches, fruit, vegetables plus other delicious additions, which you can add to your lunch.
Please note that we have a cleaning schedule to help keep the kitchen nice and clean. Please make sure you always put used plates and mugs into the dishwasher and that you put empty bottles in the corresponding crate in the back room.
Stationary
You will be provided with some stationary on your first day, however for a wider selection, please look in the white drawers behind Mischa and Oliver. You can find: pens, rulers, batteries, paper samples, scissors, hole punchers, staplers and much, much more 😉. If you think something is missing, please send a purchase request to Kate.
Electrical supplies
If you need a cable or an adapter, please take a look in the far left door of the sideboard. If you can’t find something, please ask Kate.
Your daily dose of Creative Empowerment
We continuously gather inspirational and empowering quotes as a team, which we collect in the following sheet.
Every three months, the design team uses these quotes to create Wallpapers for the team.
Team Desktop Background Guidelines
- Open the Wallpapers folder
- Copy the Export folder onto you desktop and make it available offline
- Enter your “System Preferences”.
- Choose “Desktop & Screen Saver”.
- Add the Export folder by clicking on the “+”
- Select the Export folder, tick the box “Change Picture” and select “Every day”.
- YAAAAY!!! You are now ready for your daily dose of Creative Empowerment :)
HR Onboarding
The rest of the morning until lunchtime will be spent having an onboarding with me. I will explain all the typical HR procedures and then help you with your tech setup.
The base tools we all use are: Google Suite, Harvest, Trello and Slack. I will invite you to all of these before you arrive, so you just need to look through your email inbox and accept the invitations. The tools will then be explained fully to you so you are prepped and ready to start work. Depending on what your position is, we will also make sure your job specific tools are ready to go, be it Sketch, Creative Cloud, or others.
Finally, I will help with setting your email signature (easier said than done), and will send you the link to create the all important South Park avatar.
Team Lunch
After all of the above, we guarantee you will be hungry! On your first day we will have a team lunch together in a restaurant in the area. Please let us know any dietary requirements or preferences!
On other days, sometimes people go out and eat, sometimes people bring lunch to eat in the studio. You will see very quickly that lunch is a daily discussion in our “Team” Slack channel.
Kick-off meeting
After lunch you will have a kick-off meeting with Oliver and Mischa. Here you will learn about the expectations, their vision and hear about the mission and values of hy.am studios. You will then receive your first assignment.

You will hopefully have all the tools and insights now for you to start! We understand the first day is full of new information, therefore please ask someone for help if you need it!
The end (until tomorrow)
On a “normal” day, we generally work until about 6-7 pm (though please check out the FAQs regarding our flexible hours!). Well done for completing your first day and we are excited for more tomorrow!
